DIY Trumeau Mirror with a twist

DIY Trumeau Mirror with a twist

DIY Trumeau Mirror

DIY Trumeau Mirror are all the rage and in this case, we can see why. We are totally smitten by this elegant Trumeau.

This one was done by a very clever customer in Florida. She loves French style decor and has a wonderful eye for style. This mirror sits between two lovely antique armoires.

The centerpiece of the mirror is our very own M1, the newest large French medallion added to the collection earlier this year.

M1 Medallion from Efex

To frame M1 she used D8, SW3, and B4 at the top.

Correct Efex

Also, to draw the eye to the base of the mirror she added two R39 urns down in the bottom corners of the mirror.

She painted M in French Linen and Old White with some superb layering techniques and then clear waxed the entire project. A little gold gilding to bring out the details becomes the icing on the cake.

And let’s talk about the styling for a minute. Do you think she’d come and do all our houses? That rustic metal cage, and the two candlesticks to add height, it all comes together seamlessly to accent the fabulously French aesthetic.

Voila, c’est magnifique.

So tell us, which Efex would you use to makeover a trumeau mirror?? Leave us a comment with your ideas!

Hot Pink to Old World Makeover

Hot Pink to Old World Makeover

Old World Makeover

Old World Makeover’s are not always easy. But this one seems to be the easiest one we’ve seen.

T9

This old world makeover started when she found a lavender plant. Just the perfect size, full of the wonderful smell and ambiance that we are all looking for. One small issue though…the pot was bright pink.

Often when you think of lavender you think of the South of France, California, places with sun and breeze and a whole lot of old world patina. Definitely not thinking hot pink here.

At Rehab to Fab, Stephanie takes her tired and worn out treasures and truly makes them fabulous.

Using a bit of paint by Heirloom Traditions and a few other fun products like silver gilding wax from SIFF she turned this pink pot into old world glam. Of course the accent at the top, our Efex T9 trim was the icing on the cake. Don’t you just love this chunky old world finish?

Frames,  3 plus 1 great uses for  Efex frames.

Frames by Efex

Frames have many uses. With 4 styles to choose from, they range from simple to elegant, art deco to french.  They are for much more than pictures:)

Before Frame

Janet from The Empty Nest used F 28 to take this wonderful but slightly brown chest and make it marvelous by just adding a frame to the center and decoupaging fabric in the center.

Attachment-1 3

At Maine Country Home, we added the simple frame F 24 to this painted sideboard to enhance the doors.

We are looking for a slant top desk, like the one pictured below because our F15 would be a perfect match. Just add paint and Efex.

And the addition of the frame F28 to the mora clock just made it pop.

French Style In New Zealand… A treat for all

French Style In New Zealand… A treat for all

French Style In New Zealand

French Style In New Zealand is currently all the rage. When I landed in Auckland earlier this week and was looking around the Efex New Zealand Web site. I don’t know how I missed this post from last year but I did…. wow when you see the use of Efex here you will love it.  So with apologies for not posting this months ago here is a great post from Efex in New Zealand.

A Blast from the Past, Part 1

I recently had the privilege of being invited to a new friend’s house to have a look at some of the work she’s done using Efex Appliques in her home. Let’s just say I was blown away!! One of the best parts about this job is seeing the amazing things that people create with our products.

With Sharon’s permission, I’m sharing with you some of the beautiful pieces that she has created over the years. Sharon has been using Efex for quite a few years now, so this was indeed a ‘blast from the past’. Each piece was lovely and fit perfectly into her gorgeous home.  Sharon shared four pieces in all and I will add them to this page over the next week — I’d hate to reveal everything all at once!

IMG_4513

This first piece is actually two…these black tin vessels have been transformed from simple to sophisticated with a few different Efex styles. While they’re currently being used as some of the world’s fanciest rubbish bins(!), they would be beautiful for displaying flowers or nestled next to the fireplace holding pinecones.

Sharon used Pediment P12N (P15 in the US and Canada) and an older style drop similar to D4. Sometimes a different look is just about using the mouldings in a different way. By turning the P8N pediment ‘upside down’ and using it as a swag, she’s achieved something just a bit different.

Sharon really has a wonderful French Style In New Zealand More to come soon so check back in…. :)

Boiserie Panels with Efex

Boiserie Panels with Efex

Boiserie – Easy elegant panels

Do you lust after French Boiserie panels? You know the lovely ones we see in pictures of  manors all over Europe. We even have a Pinterest board dedicated to them. As the lust became an obsession, I decided that one easy way was to design panels using our Efex.

We have chosen three easy designs mixing some of our 180 Efex patterns. They would be great on stand-alone panels, added to a raised door, or as designs on a piece of furniture.

The first one is a small panel that is so easy to make.

s-l400

The inspiration came from an antique carving (French, of course) found on EBay. It’s easy to see the elements we used to mix and match They are an F15, 4 Fleur di Lis, and one small rosette R72.

4

Our frame measures 14” x x 8”. The FDL 1 measure 3.6” x 2.5” and the R 72 is 1.5 inches round. It would be perfect for a panel that was up to 18″ x 12 “. The bonus is you can set the design either way.

Our second inspiration is from a panel found on 1st dibs.

th-2

The recreation is easy, Just 1 SW8 swag and 2 D2 drops. Our example measures about 11″ in length and 7″ wide. You could stretch it to be a little longer, or a fix the swag to make it slightly deeper and shorter. It would fit perfectly on any panel between 12 and 14 inches.

2

Our final example is suited for a slightly smaller area.

B21 and R41 can be put together for a piece that is 7.5″ long. Remember, Efex are flexible so the tails of the bow could be bent at a different angle.

Or for one final idea for the day, look at the panel our dealer Paint Passion designed.
